The Payment of Bonus Act, 1965 in India limits the bonus that can be paid to employees to a minimum of 8.33% and a maximum of 20% of their salary or wages:

Eligibility

Employees must have worked at least 30 days in an accounting year to be eligible for a bonus

Payment

Bonuses must be paid within eight months of the end of the accounting year.

Wage limit

Bonuses are paid to employees whose monthly salary or wages do not exceed Rs. 21,000.

Calculation

If an employee's wages are at least Rs. 7,000 or the minimum wage set by the government, the bonus is paid based on those wages.
